Military vet, first-gen student earns business degree

When Manuel “Manny” Aguilar finished his military career, he didn’t know what he wanted to do. He says CU Denver helped him figure it out.

“I don’t think I would have gotten these opportunities with other schools that don’t have these programs.”

He pursued a bachelor’s degree at the Business School. He got involved with CIBERVets and learned about international business. Through Veteran & Military Student Services, he found a mentor who helped him land internships at World Trade Center Denver and Arrow Electronics.

“I don’t think I would have gotten these opportunities with other schools that don’t have these programs,” Aguilar said. “CU Denver has been great, very military-friendly.”

Now, the military veteran and first-generation college student is graduating with a BSBA in international business. Meet Manny below.

  • Son of mother from Mexico and father from Nicaragua
  • Youngest of 11 kids
  • First in his family to earn a college degree

“Take advantage of all the programs and services CU Denver has to offer. Go to every event the university offers, even if it doesn’t interest you quite yet. Listen to everything. You can find inspiration in so much of it.”
